Body of Knowledge: The "Project Management
Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK®) is
an inclusive term that describes the sum of knowledge within the profession of project
management. This full body of knowledge includes knowledge of proven, traditional
practices, which are widely applied, as well as knowledge of innovative and advanced
practices, which may have seen more limited use. The full body of knowledge concerning
project management is that which resides with the practitioners and academics that apply
and advance it.Continue to download area for A Guide to

Guide to the Body of Knowledge: A
Guide to The Project Management Body of Knowledge (also called the PMBOK® Guide)
identifies and describes that subset of the Project Management Body of Knowledge, which is
generally accepted. Generally accepted means that the knowledge and practices
described are applicable to most projects most of the time, and that there is widespread
consensus about their value and usefulness. Generally accepted does not mean that the
knowledge and practices described are or should be applied uniformly on all projects; the
project management team is always responsible for determining what is appropriate for any
given project.
Other Purposes: The PMBOK® Guide also provides a common lexicon within the profession. The document
provides a basic reference for anyone interested in the profession of project management.
As a basic reference, this document is neither comprehensive nor all-inclusive.
Application area extensions and sources of further information are discussed in the
PMBOK® Guide.
Author and Owner: The Project Management Institute, Inc., is the
author and owner of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), and in the spirit of advancing the worldwide profession of project
management makes available this globally respected document to promote and encourage the
distribution and dissemination of project management knowledge. PMI owns and maintains the
exclusive rights and privileges in and to the copyright in the book. The
PMBOK® Guide is made possible through the volunteer efforts of many dedicated and
knowledgeable members of the Project Management Institute, seeking to advance the
profession of project management. From time to time, revisions will be made and new
editions will be developed. Key contributors will be identified through the identification
and credits found in the PMBOK®
Guide.
Please note: In order to download a copy of the PMBOK® Guide for your personal use and non-commercial use,, you must complete the
Copyright Agreement form that follows, and indicate your understanding and agreement to
